Biden Super PAC plans historic $250 million ad blitz

The major Democratic super PAC supporting President Biden's reelection bid, Future Forward, is beginning this week to set aside $250 million in advertising in key battleground states, a campaign it says is the largest political advertising purchase by a super PAC. in the history of the nation.

The ads, which will be split between $140 million on television and $110 million on digital and streaming platforms, will begin the day after the Democratic National Convention concludes in August and will run through Election Day, the official said. super PAC.

The ad pool covers seven states considered major presidential battlegrounds: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The super PAC said it was booking more than $16 million in television and cable advertising in Atlanta and $12 million in the Phoenix television markets, the most in the two states that Biden brought into the Democratic column in 2020 by first time in years. . It's also spending heavily in smaller markets in battleground states: $3 million each in Madison, Wisconsin, and Reno, Nevada, and $2 million in Flint, Michigan.

The digital haul includes roughly $35 million on YouTube, and more on other streaming platforms including Hulu, Roku and Vevo, plus the streaming services of Spanish-language giants Telemundo and Univision.

Future Forward also targets some of the same demographic groups of more disaffected and disengaged Democrats that Biden's own campaign is focused on: younger voters, Hispanic voters and Black voters.

The booking is made entirely by Future Forward's super PAC, known as FF PAC. The group also has a nonprofit arm that advertised last year. The super PAC and nonprofit have previously announced they will raise $208 million in 2023, meaning the group presumably already has even more money in commitments lined up.

“The stakes in this election couldn't be higher, and by Election Day, every voter on the battlefield will know it,” said Chauncey McLean, president of Forward Future super PAC. “We will pursue a cost-effective, data-driven program of unprecedented scale to re-elect Joe Biden.”

The $250 million ad buy is more than any independent spending group spent during the entire 2020 election. Future Forward spent $151 million supporting Biden four years ago and is set to play an even larger role. important in 2024, after the White House designated the super PAC as the top outside group this year. The main super PAC that backed President Donald J. Trump in 2020, America First Action, spent $150 million.

By booking ads early, the super PAC is expected to be able to negotiate better rates than those who buy later and secure some of the most coveted slots.

With the GOP looking increasingly likely to nominate Trump again, Democrats hope their constellation of super PACs supporting him will give the party a significant financial advantage.

The leading pro-Trump super PAC announced it had raised $46 million in the second half of 2023 and about $60 million for the year, far less than Future Forward.
