Earlier this month, Tori Spelling talked about moving forward during the holiday season despite, well, everything that's happened this year.
2023 has not been ideal.
In June, Dean McDermott announced the end of his marriage.
Since then, he has done a lot. But in all that time, she hasn't seen any of their five shared children.
An internal fountain opened to Us weekly about the awkward tension between would-be co-parents Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott.
“Tori and Dean have spoken briefly,” the source confirmed.
“But the situation with the separation and the children is still a bit chaotic,” the source detailed.
According to the source, things related to the children continue to change “and are not completely resolved.”
The source confirmed the obvious: that divorce is “very likely” on the horizon for Tori and Dean. After all, they are separated and also dating other people.
“It's a day-to-day process,” the source explained. “And things are not completely amicable.”
While Dean hasn't had any real interactions with his kids since splitting from Tori in June, he has spoken to them on the phone.
“They haven't had any individual time alone together in person away from Tori,” the inside source then carefully specified.
In particular, this is more important for some children than for others. Liam and Stella are in their mid-teens. Beau, on the other hand, is only six years old. These six months without Dean have been a twelfth of his entire life.
In June, Dean took to Instagram on a seemingly random Saturday morning to declare that, after 18 years together, he and Tori had broken up.
This came as a shock to many. On the surface, he and Tori had been doing better than they had in years.
He deleted the post a few hours later. However, that did not mean a reconciliation.
As it turned out, Dean was under the influence of alcohol when he wrote it. And this was not the first time.
“The alcohol made me feel pretty good. I started to feel pretty good until it got to a point where it wasn't like that anymore: I ended up isolated,” Dean shared in a revealing interview last month.
“I ended up drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week,” he admitted. “And a handful of (prescription medications) alone with a beautiful family in the other room.”
“My worst memory with Tori is that last fight when I was drunk and angry,” Dean recalled.
“It was the night that I became angry at her and the children and I saw the light, the last flash of the flame go out in their eyes,” he described.
Dean added: “I posted (the split announcement) that because I was at the end of my rope. Not know what to do. “It had burned everything once again.”
As we reported, Dean sharing Tori's private pain left her feeling “unprepared.”
After McDermott's explosive interview, a second source said Us that Spelling was taken “by surprise.”
“It was a lot of personal information about his family,” an inside source said at the time. “Tori has been very protective of the kids, given Dean's anger and outburst.”
The good news is that Dean's interview didn't ruin his ex.
Instead, he claimed that Tori had encouraged and supported him, which turned out to be a thankless task for her.
Dean spent much of the summer in rehab. He has since moved into a sober living group home. It's where he spent Thanksgiving.
The holiday season is upon us. For some, religious holidays have already arrived, have begun, or are happening today. Others are still waiting for Christmas. And more or less everyone is waiting for New Year's Eve.
According to a source, Tori and Dean's vacation arrangements are “yet to be determined.”
“It depends on Dean's healing process and his commitment to sobriety,” the source emphasized. “Right now he's still up in the air.”
