John Legend is getting ready for a great Christmas. ET's Deidre Behar spoke with The voice coach before part one of the show's two-part season finale, and gushed about having two new additions to his family with Chrissy Teigen for this year's holiday season.
“It's our first as a family of six, so it's very exciting,” Legend told ET, before noting of his daughter and son: “Esti was born in January, Wren was born in June.”
“They've never had Christmas before. They really won't have it yet, but we're excited to have everyone together celebrating Christmas,” he added. “We're not going to work over the holidays. We're just going to relax and enjoy each other and I'm excited about that.”
In addition to Esti, 11 months, and Wren, 6 months, Legend and Teigen share Luna, 7, and Miles, 5.
Christmas isn't the only thing Legend is getting ready to celebrate, as the singer will turn 45 on December 28. As we enter a new year, Legend has some goals for himself.
“Personally, I focused on trying to be the best father and husband I could be,” he said. “Professionally, I'm always looking to create and continue to hold the bar for myself, the standard for myself, really high. Every song I write, every record I put out, I just want it to be my best work. Every performance. I want it, I want it to be my best work, so I'll keep the bar high and try to achieve it.
For now, however, Legend is focused on The voice final and their only remaining artist in the competition, Lila Forde.
“I like the idea of only having one Team Legend artist in the finals, because I think Reba and Niall have two artists who could split their votes a little bit,” he said. “Everyone who wants to vote for Team Legend can only vote for one artist. Vote for Lila.”
Whether Forde emerges victorious or not, Legend is sure her career is just beginning.
“I think it doesn't really matter if he wins or not. In many ways, I think his career has already been wonderfully established by what he's done on the show so far,” Legend said. “She has really distinguished herself as a great artist, as an artist that everyone wants to hear what her album would sound like. Everyone wants to hear what her composition would sound like. All of that has already happened, and if she takes the trophy “. being at home or not won't affect that, but it would be nice to win.”
“We want to win, so vote for her! But either way, she's done a lot to establish herself in the world,” he continued. “She has sung in front of millions of people and they have fallen in love with her. And no matter what happens tomorrow with the vote, we know that she has achieved a lot in her career and prepared herself very well to continue succeeding.” in the future.”
As for Legend's future on the show, he will return for season 25 and is open to continuing beyond that.
“I love being a part of this. I hope they keep asking me to come back,” he said. “I love doing it, because I love the interaction I have with these artists. I really get inspired by working with them. I learned something from trying to teach them, train them and guide them. I really learned a lot. I think it's made me a better artist.”
“I'm glad I get to make music with these really talented human beings who have a dream and want to be where I am in my career,” Legend added. “I'm inspired. I'm filled with joy through this process and I'm excited to do it again in season 25.”
The voices Two parts season 24 finale airs Monday, December 18 at 8 pm PT/ET and Tuesday, December 19 at 9 pm PT/ET on NBC.
