Meghan Markle and Prince Harry avoid Christmas card controversy and go on vacation to Costa Rica

Earlier this week, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry unveiled their 2022 Christmas card.

And because almost everything the couple does becomes a source of controversy, the Sussexes' innocent Christmas greeting attracted an avalanche of complaints from the internet's meanest haters.

Mainly, commenters were upset by the fact that Harry and Meghan's children did not appear on the card.

It was a strange complaint for several reasons.

For starters, the card was issued from Harry and Meghan's offices in Archewell and had a very corporate feel.

So the inclusion of children would have felt a little out of place.

On top of that, Harry and Meghan have worked very hard to protect their children from the media and allow them to grow up with a modicum of privacy.

The crusade for the right to privacy of all public figures has become one of Harry's greatest passions.

In fact, Harry recently won a lawsuit against the Daily Mail in which he accused the outlet of phone hacking and other unethical practices.

So, yes, it would have been strange for the Sussexes to place so much importance on privacy and then go against everything they stand for just for a Christmas card.

The Duke and Duchess further underlined the fact that their privacy and family are more important to them than their public image by taking a secret trip to Costa Rica last week.

In the past, the couple has been criticized for traveling too often without their children.

(As we said before, people will find a reason to complain about literally any action taken by Harry and Meghan.)

So if they were worried about what their haters thought of them, they might have made a big deal of taking their kids on a little vacation before Christmas.

Instead, the trip went unnoticed until the Sussexes returned home and Page Six published an article revealing that the couple had spent a week exploring Guanacaste and Zapotal.

As for how the Sussexes intend to celebrate the holidays, we don't have many details, but we do know that at least one Christmas wish will come true. No come true for Prince Archie.

While conducting a recent interview with filmmaker Misan Harriman, Meghan revealed that her son is newly interested in photography, a hobby that prompted a very expensive gift request.

“Misan was showing him how to do photography the last time he was with us, and I bought Archie a camera and he said, 'But it's not a Leica like Misan,'” Meghan said, laughing.

“I told him, 'You're not going to get a Leica! Not even for Christmas,'” the duchess added before joking with Harriman:

“So thank you for the inspiration across the board.”

Yes, not even princes get everything they want for Christmas!

Feel free to explain it to your own kids if they're disappointed with this year's haul!
