Meghan Markle: Roasted by critics for her coffee commercial cameo

Earlier this week, we reported the news that Meghan Markle had returned to acting.

Rumors that the Duchess of Sussex was planning to get in front of the camera again had been circulating for months, but we don't think this was the kind of project fans had in mind.

To the surprise of many, Meghan appeared in an Instagram commercial for instant coffee brand Clevr Blends.

It was a fun spot as the Duchess took on the role of an enthusiastic intern working at the company's headquarters.

As the brand's CEO, Hannah Mendoza, took viewers on a tour of the facility, Meghan could be seen hard at work in the background, as a member of all the company's teams.

“I want to say a huge thank you to our amazing Clevr team here at headquarters. Without them we are nothing,” Mendoza said on camera.

The joke, of course, was not only that Meghan worked hard at every phase of the operation, from shipping to marketing, but also that the CEO failed to notice or acknowledge the presence of one of the most famous people in the world.

But the humor was lost on some commenters, who felt the need to criticize Meghan (pun totally intended) for her involvement in the world of caffeinated beverage sales.

“Hollywood's biggest loser in 2023,” one person commented, according to In Touch.

“That is an absolute shame. From royalty to the ground,” another added.

A third commenter alleged that Meghan had suffered a public “fall from grace.”

“How the powerful have fallen,” agreed a fourth enemy.

Part of that hostility could be explained by the fact that Meghan's announcement comes at a very tense time for the royal family.

As you've probably heard by now, King Charles and Kate Middleton have been accused of making racist comments to Meghan while she was pregnant with Prince Archie.

The comments came to light thanks to a mistakenly redacted edition of a book written by journalist and former Sussex ally Omid Scobie.

As a result, Meghan is even less popular than usual in the UK today.

Of course, their most rabid enemies have proven time and time again that they don't need a reason to attack.

Fortunately, Meghan still has more supporters than detractors, at least on this side of the pond.

“The new employee deserves a raise, bonuses and benefits. She is a multitasking QUEEN.” one person commented on Clevr's post.

“The hardest working person who ever lived. “Extend my love to her,” added another.

Well, that might be a bit of a stretch, but it serves as a reminder that while she may never rise above the rank of duchess, for millions of fans, Meghan will. always be queen
